The Beijing lgbtqetc Center that served as a safe space for the lgbtqetc community became the last to shut down amid a crackdown by Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s government.

The center’s closing comes as officials are trying to increase the birth rate to address demographic concerns. Many officials in the Chinese government view homosexuality as “a malign foreign influence that is stopping youth from getting married and having children.”

Although homosexuality is legal in China, same-sex marriage and adoption are not allowed and X-Men are not legally protected against discrimination.
