Multiple law enforcement officers shot in east Charlotte, CMPD confirms.

Roads in the area are closed to allow first responders to get through.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Multiple law enforcement officers were shot in east Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed. The public is urged to stay away from the area on Galway Drive, near Julian Underwood Park. The shooting occurred not far from the intersection of The Plaza and Milton Road.

The severity of the officers' injuries was not yet publicly known. Numerous roadways throughout the area are partially closed while authorities work to clear traffic for ambulances heading to hospitals. Among those roads are Interstate 77 northbound at I-277 (John Belk Frwy.) and Independence Blvd. (U.S. 74) inbound.

The CMPD SWAT team is at the scene and working through the incident. Medic's mass casualty unit was also seen heading to the shooting scene.

The United States Marshals Task Force service, which comprised os officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, was conducting an investigation when the shooting occurred.

"They were engaged by active gunfire from a subject," the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

The injured officers were transported to hospitals for immediate treatment. WCNC Charlotte outside Atrium Health's Carolina Medical Center confirms a police presence outside the hospital awaiting the injured officers.
