So where I'm at in NJ, I have been able to experience many sunrises from the beach. I have also done this while in MD and on my visits to Myrtle Beach. The sun rose from the northeastern direction from my location at the time of rising.

So back to my original question. WHY IS THE ECLIPSE STARTING FROM THE SOUTHWEST???

The incident involving the shooting of two NYPD officers in Brooklyn on January 16th, 2024, occurred when the officers were responding to a domestic violence call. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Melvin Butler, resisted arrest, leading to a violent struggle during which he managed to disarm one of the officers. Butler fired the weapon, hitting one officer in the leg and the other in the hand. The confrontation was captured on the officers body-worn cameras, which were later released to the public.

The officers involved in the incident were identified as Samuel Acevedo and Timothy Brennan. Officer Acevedo was shot in the leg, and Officer Brennan was shot in the hand. Both officers were taken to Kings County Hospital with non ife threatening injuries and are expected to make full recoveries.

Melvin Butler was also shot multiple times by the officers during the exchange of gunfire. He was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Following the incident, Butler faced several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer, assault, and robbery.

The body-worn camera footage from the incident played a crucial role in documenting the events as they unfolded. The NYPD has a policy of releasing body worn camera footage relating to critical incidents to the public, which is part of their commitment to transparency and accountability.

Police Officer Brennan, Police Officer Acevedo, Police Officer Lafaille, and Sergeant Groth were each equipped with a body-worn camera, all of which were activated during this incident.
