While mum is sleeping, little baby wants to play with the humans. It takes a lot of patience to get this moment but also a lot of experience to know when the animals might be going to sleep. They don’t make any noise or come to the surface, but watching their behavior from the boat we suspected this was about to happen. When they did a dive we knew it wasn’t a deep one. So we got in and we searched for a minute or two in the water and we spotted them as they started to come up from slightly deeper depths to stop at around 15 ft where this mum and her friend (out of shot) stayed asleep while the baby was restless to play.

They do these short bursts of sleep for about 10-15 minutes and it’s been estimated they only sleep about 6-7 % of their day (we’re closer to 30%).
