“This study.provides the first clean demonstration of violent lyric effects,” says lead author Craig Anderson, PhD, of Iowa State University.
Violent song lyrics may lead to violent behavior
July/August 2003, Vol 34, No. 7
Print version: page 15
Violent song lyrics increase negative emotions and thoughts that can lead to aggression, according to a study published in the May issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (Vol. 84, No. 5).
The results indicate a relationship between violent song lyrics and increased aggressive thoughts and feelings of hostility. Humorous violent songs also increased aggression levels, relative to humorous nonviolent songs, according to Anderson. The findings held even after the researchers controlled for the listeners’ gender and personality differences, as well as their reactions to the different performing artists and musical styles.
While more research on effects of violent lyrics must be done, says Anderson, yet another type of entertainment media, when referring to violence, “now has been demonstrated to have some negative effects.” ~ A. PALMER
So
You’re not a woman?
You’re a binary?
Ummm
Sweetie
You got a pussy
You can give birth
You just confused
What the fuck?
You get your period
You get cramps
How can you be a binary?
That’s a mental disorder
What are you talkin about?
Black woman
Black woman
Listen to me
The world gave you
This confusion
Gave you an idea
Of you’re not a woman
And I know what you’re goin
To say…
Please don’t lecture me
I don’t wanna hear that
I’m a woman, I’m not a woman
I’m binary what you say is
Offensive…I don’t have
A pussy…
And no I’m not confused
And don’t bring racism to the mix
Well fine then
Do you
At the end of the day
Black woman
Yes I call you
Black woman
White supremacy genderized
Your black ass to the fullest…
You got stern
On me and said
Don’t call me a woman
I asked
Why are you dress like one?
Why are you so feminine?
Melanin poppin
All the girly girl glow?
Why are you pmsin?
Why does your womanhood speaks louder
And clearer as day?
Yes be uncomfortable
Black woman
If you don’t wanna be called
A woman,
A black woman,
Guess what
Don’t stand with us…..
Don’t be our activist either
If you’re not a sistah
Cos
I’m offendin
By your nonsense
Your womanhood is
Like a jailbird locked up
Behind bars
It’s screamin out loud
At you
At your body
At your soul
You are a black woman
Who is deeply puzzled….
