I can only speak for myself because I personally believe it depends on where you were living at that time. I was in Tulsa, Oklahoma. My answer would be yes it benefited my family and community. Many of my friends, neighbors, church family became professionals in every genre you can mention. Excellent education segregated and integrated.New York the same for me. I want speak on the negative of racism. That is a different ball game all together. Without King and what he did i would most likely be in prison are dead. It wasn't just him remember it was a UNITY of a people. Something that doesn't exist anymore. It was a hard fight and many died only now for people to say not just King because it wasn't just him it was a mistake. The Black Panthers picked up the torch after that well here we are. President's and government on every level started slowly bringing Jim Crow back even though it never until this day ever left. I never stopped fighting and helping my communities. But our way because the babies need. No one speaks about alcohol and hard drugs in the community and laws , gentrification and so on. You brought up a powerful conversation and memories as well as the fight continues until this day. But myself will forever be grateful and give honor to all brother and sisters who lost their lives fighting for a better future of our people. To forget is an abomination against humanity as a people. I can never forget the blood shed on my hands fighting for my life at 14 yrs old trying to make it home. Only at the point of death could anyone understand what it was and is like til this day. I asked my father once how was it in war? He looked at me and said " never ask anyone who's been in war that question" I got the message..
