Your child
Came up to you
And said got a text
Not so kind one
Where

It says, “it’s time to go
Back to your plantation,
Nigger? Pick cotton is waitin
For you.”

What would you do
As a parent?
As a black parent?
And your baby is in tears….

How would you explain this?
From the heart?
From a place of anger that towards someone
Who texts your child?
An unknown number…

Withheld your truth
Holdin your tongue back
Doesn’t protect your baby….

You must tell
Your kid about racism
And have the authorities be involved
In a racist text situation…
Cos it’s unsafe….

Or you can track down
The culprit
Who send these awful words
To your child…

The society has already made them
Feel conscious….
That texter makes them even worse
Especially this person is a racist
Could be a grown adult…
Or another child….
It’s not funny….

It’s why you can’t held
Your truth back cos
If you do, the real world
Real life
Is a harsh teacher
Who will always judge about
Kid’s melanin….
No matter where she or he goes
Don’t resent that….

I know you want your baby
To stay away from those things…
I understand
I don’t blame you
However
You need to have a heavy discussion
About white supremacy….
It’s important….
So your child will know
Who he’s or she’s dealin with…

I saw those racist messages
Pourin in children’s phones….
On the news
Right after election….

And you see why
Racism
Does
Exist….
It’s not hysterical….
Not sarcasm….

You can’t say
These texts are nothin…
Sayin there’s nothin you worry
About…
You be like, they can’t do
Anythin
Even if it’s nothin at all,
It’s goin to affect
Your baby’s mental health
If this continues….

I’m certainly sure
You want your baby’s well being to be
Straight…am I correct?
You do have to care
You do have to tell the truth
So they could be aware….

Racist texts
Are terrible….
They should be
