The Tignon Law, established in Louisiana, and adopted by other states, ordered women of color to cover their hair with a headwrap called a tignon. The tignon was intended to signify that Black women were not equal to their Eur0pean counterparts.

It was believed the beautiful and elaborate hairdos and braids, that were even adorned with jewels and feathers, worn by Black women, became 0ffensive and threatening to the social stability of that time(sound familiar).

And as always in Black Girl Magic fashion, we started to tie the tignon in elaborate ways, using beautiful fabrics and patterns, making it apart of our identity that you still see today. What was intended to suppress our unique beauty was used to make us that much more alluring, highlighting our uniqueness even more. Without the knowledge of the past, history is d00med to repeat itself again.

I always love to talk about Queen Amanirenas, the indomitable one-eyed African Queen who single-handedly defeated the Roman Empire army and decapitated the head of the roman army General.

It happened when the Romans invaded Kemet or Ta-Mery (ancient Egypt and also known as Lower Egypt in ancient times), then Romans decided to go further south to invade Ta-Seti (Upper Egypt or Nubia, part of Sudan today), that was when they were humiliated by Queen Amanirenas and her army the Romans were soundly defeated and they never come near her Kingdom again.

The history of these Queens are very interesting, try and teach your children. The idea of building Castles, Kingdoms and R0yal societies are known to African people. We are not living our best lives today because we have derailed from our naturality.

I found out today that I've gotten the position at the Wyckoff Museum House as a Education & Public Educator. I'll be teaching groups of school children about the Wyckoff House and its history of being the oldest building in New York State. Teaching not only of the settlers but the aborignal people of these lands. The job is walking distance from my house.
