Senator Dianne Feinstein has been on a crusade to pass an "assault weapon" ban since 1995. The problem with this is that the term "assault weapon" is a made-up term with no real definition.
This allows politicians like Feinstein to keep updating the ban with new firearms and naming them specifically, like naming the "Assault Pistol" used in the California shooting. It's clear that this ban would not have prevented the recent mass shooting in California, a state that already has strict gun laws.
In fact, from 1982 to 2023, California has had the highest number of mass shootings in the United States, while also being ranked #1 for having the strictest gun laws in the country.
This raises the question of how effective these laws really are.
Furthermore, when it comes to gun violence, rifles are the least used type of firearm. Even when you narrow it down to mass shootings, rifles are still not the most commonly used type of gun. So, why are we still talking about passing an "assault weapon" ban? The truth is, this ban would not save lives. Rather, it is simply a stepping stone for those who ultimately want to ban all guns...
